Jocelyn
Wilson - Student Intern
jocelyn@uchicago.edu
Born in Southern California but raised, from
the age of two in
Ames,
Iowa
(http://www.city.ames.ia.us/);
Jocelyn is a small-town girl at heart.
And since there’s not much to do in a small town but eat
some of her favorite memories include food.
Picking mulberries with her cousins from the mulberry tree
in her great grandmother’s front yard and picking rhubarb from
the back yard, and sitting in her grandmother’ kitchen watching
her make apple pies.
Jocelyn and her son, Dacian (9), moved to
Chicago
from
Ames
,
Iowa
in 2003 so Jocelyn could pursue dual master degrees from the
University
of
Chicago
. After a one-year
break from her studies and return home to Iowa in 2005 so she
could care for her newborn son, Amari (2), Jocelyn and her two
sons returned to Chicago. Jocelyn
earned her MA from the
University
of
Chicago
’s
School
of
Social Service Administration
with an emphasis in policy analysis this June, and is now in her
third year in the
Christian
Ministry
program at the University’s
Divinity
School
. After graduation
from the Ministry program, Jocelyn hopes to continue on to law
school where her interest lies in international human rights.
Ultimately, Jocelyn would like to do human rights advocacy
and get her license in clinical social work so she can counsel
survivors of trauma and torture.
Jocelyn believes the ministry she has been given is to walk
with individuals through suffering by sharing with them the hope
we have in Christ so they can continue in the purposes God has for
their lives.
When Jocelyn is not studying she enjoys going
for walks with her boys, watching good movies (on Saturday
mornings a good corny 80s movie is preferable), playing any sport
and doing anything outdoors especially during the summer, or just
sitting back in peace and quiet and enjoying a nice cup of tea.
Jocelyn also loves to write and hopes to someday publish
some of her writings.
She hopes to return home to
Ames
,
Iowa
after she graduates and serve in her home church, The Body of
Christ Christian Worship Center Her home church (http://www.bccministries.org/).
However, she remains open to go wherever God might send
her.
