Sampaguita, (the
National Flower of the
Philippines
) is a difficult word to pronounce, thus, when she first worked at
Sutton Place Hotel in downtown,
Chicago
, her Supervisor shortened her name to Sampa but her close friends
call her Sam.
Sampa, husband, Joel and their youngest daughter, Jacy Joy Juarez
Tan came to the US in July of 1997 leaving 2 sons, 2 daughters,
two daughters-in-law, 2 sons-in-law, and 6 grandchildren in the
Philippines to seek for “gold, milk and honey” in the “Land
of Promise”.
The separation from their children, grandchildren, brothers,
sisters, relatives and friends was not easy but their faithfulness
to the Lord and His grace kept them going.
Three months after arriving in
Chicago
, they found their way to
North
Shore
where they found a church away from their home church and a
lively, loving and concerned church family.
They became members of
North
Shore
in December 1997 to this day.
Prior to working at
North
Shore
, Sampa worked at Sutton Place Hotel, and 2 years at Moody Bible
Institute in
Chicago
.
Sampa is a holder of a Bachelors degree in Commercial Science
major in Banking & Finance and minor in Business
Administration which qualifies her for the position of Financial
Secretary of
North
Shore
for the last 7 years come June.
Sampa and Joel are both active members of the Central Philippine
University Alumni Association MidWest USA Chapter (CPUAA Midwest
USA
) for which she is currently the Public Information Officer.
CPU is the second oldest American Baptist founded
university in the
Philippines.
